Paul Soriano: Proposal to girlfriend Toni Gonzaga on ‘pre-production’

MANILA, Philippines – Paul Soriano said his proposal to girlfriend Toni Gonzaga is currently still on “pre-production.”

To recall, Toni previously joked that she would be the one to propose to Paul if his film “Transit,” which is the country’s entry to the Academy Awards, will be nominated for an Oscar next year.

“Transit,” directed by first-time director Hannah Espia, was produced by Paul.

But Paul said in an interview on Saturday, Oct. 26, that he’d still “be doing the proposing.”

The director-producer spoke to members of the press during the Nuvali Outdoor Film Festival at The Fields in Sta. Rosa, Laguna last Saturday. Entries of the NuCinema Short Film contest (wherein Paul, Jeffrey Jeturian, and Jade Castro served as judges) were screened during the Nuvali Outdoor Film Festival.

“Don’t worry, I won’t give her that stress. I’ll be doing the planning and I’ll be doing the proposing,” he said.

Paul added, “Pre-production muna ako sa proposal.”

But while a proposal may not happen in the near future, Paul said it’s “still in the plans”

“I don’t base my personal life on the victories of my career,” he said.

‘We want to win’

Paul said they recently acquired the services of American director-producer Dean Devlin and his production company Electric Entertainment to help with the distribution and promotion of “Transit.”

“His vision is he wants to show it to the world. He’s helping us with our Oscar campaign. He’s quite a name in Hollywood. He’s making the phone calls for us,” he said of Devlin.

“To have Dean Devlin’s name in ‘Transit’ just brings us to a world-class level.”

Asked what his predictions for “Transit” are, he said: “We want to win.”

But in case they lose, Paul hopes that “Transit” can also help the Philippines get “that elusive Oscar” for other films in the future.
