Couple with disabilities

MANILA, Philippines - ABS-CBN news reporters Maan Macapagal and Dominic Almelor narrate the story of a struggling married couple with disabilities today in Pinoy True Stories: Saklolo.

Roberto and Marivic were former overseas Filipino workers who came back home in the Philippines to build a family. They, however, couldn’t bear children.

Roberto eventually stopped working because his left eye lost vision due to diabetes. Because of his medical expenses, Marivic had to earn more money by selling pansit aside from working in a factory. Until one day, Marivic got hit by a tricyle then run over by a delivery truck. After the horrific accident, one of her legs had to be amputated. Now hampered by disabilities, Marivic and Roberto don’t know how to get by with their condition.

Saklolo accompanied Marivic to a rehabilitation doctor who gave her an artificial leg for free. It will take Marivic a long time to get used to walking on her artificial leg but for her, each step would lead her to a better life with her husband.

Saklolo airs Wednesdays at 4:45 p.m. on ABS-CBN Kapamilya Gold.
