King and I opens Sept. 15

MANILA, Philippines - More and more theater and entertainment enthusiasts are now lining up to score some tickets for the anticipated musical touted as the grandest Filipino theater event of the year, The King and I which opens on Sept. 15 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater, Resorts World Manila.

As early as late August, most dates have already been sold out due to public demand, as more fans are trying to set up available dates for the Rodgers and Hammerstein timeless classic.

Headlined by international theater luminaries Leo Tavarro Valdez and Monique Wilson, together with a stellar cast of other stage greats, and directed by Freddie Santos, the all-Filipino produced musical also boasts of grand set designs, high-end light, audio and video technologies, and the costume expertise of Rajo Laurel.

Complementing the masterful roster of talent and production is the Newport Performing Arts Theater, which is fast becoming the main venue for superlative entertainment in the country. With its 1,500-seating capacity, award-winning interior design, the largest LED screen in Southeast Asia, and innovative acoustic structures, the grand stage adds up to the majestic spectacle that is The King and I.

The King and I tells the timeless story of Anna Leonowens and her adventures with King Mongkut and his many children in majestic Siam during the early 1860s.

Being the third offering of the country’s only one-stop, nonstop venue for absolute entertainment and lifestyle alternatives, The King and I also continues Resorts World Manila’s pursuit to champion the Filipino artist, delivering such noteworthy productions at par with that of Broadway and London’s West End for local audiences and country guests alike.
