MANILA, Philippines - Resorts World Manila (RWM) is gearing up for its third production with its recent acquisition from Broadway Asia — the rights to stage Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King & I. This sets the stage for another show that will capture the hearts of its viewers and take them to another place and time.
RWM is set to wow today’s audiences with this internationally-acclaimed musical known for its memorable story and the grandeur of its setting. The King & I tells the story of the British governess, Anna, who was hired by the King of Siam to take care of his many children. The relationship between the two is marred by conflict and differing beliefs which prevent them from acknowledging and expressing their love for each other.
The production continues RWM’s commitment develop the Philippine theater industry and showcase world-class Filipino talent in its Newport Performing Arts Theater (NPAT). Its first production was the original extravaganza, Kaos, which combined Las Vegas magic with Broadway entertainment. Its sophomore production, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music, is now the longest-running Filipino production of a Broadway Musical, and will run until May 27.
