The romance of food

MANILA, Philippines - In my search for good food, I realized that looking for it is like looking for love. The romance of food has kept me distant these past few weeks. It has given me the illusion that I am single again and am going out on my first date.

Isn’t it that when you’re young, you easily fall in love with appearances? Isn’t it the moment that you gasp at the sight of your crush and get goosebumps as you taste the first kiss?

Ahhh…those were the feelings evoked by my new-found friends. The atmosphere at Enchanté, The Goose Station and the Establishment-Crystal Room have put me instantly in a pleasurable mood like love at first sight.

From the time I sat down to the time I relished my last bite, I felt like I was blushing from the excitement and anticipation of what every course may bring to my senses.

24-hour Steak at Goose Station

Like a learned lover, every dish served teased me but satisfied me — and brought me deeper into my passionate reverie.

The VSR salad, which comes with goose liver, scallops, prawns and mushrooms; and a glass of white wine at Enchanté was enough for me to say “Yes!” to a love proposal. The surroundings was so charming similar to an innocent love.

The soft and creamy Eggs Benedict at The Goose Station can get you gooey over your date. The 24-hour Steak, which is literally cooked for 24 hours, was like tender love that was well-thought of and was meant to blossom into a serious affair.

The US Angus Beef Tenderloin with Lychee Sauce and the 20 layers of crepe filled with pistachio crème at The Establishment Crystal Room have taken my thoughts to more serendipitous events that can happen in my life. Its candle-lit interior provided mystery as if to encourage me to find out what I still desire.

Can you feel love in the air? That is the power of food. Food teases. Food stimulates. Food satisfies. Food transforms. Food makes us fall in love.
