Mayor Labella open volleyball tourney unfurls today

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City plays host to the first volleyball tournament of 2020 via the Mayor Edgar Labella Cup, which will kick off at 4 p.m. today at the Cebu City Sports Institute in Barangay Sawang Calero.

The men’s and women’s division drew six teams each.

Vying for top honors in the men’s class are  Southwestern University-Phinma, University of Cebu, , University of Southern Philippines Foundation, Fiesta People, Sports U and Mischka.

SWU, UC, and SWU are also seeing action in the distaff side together with Team Marias, Harbor Pilot, and JK Angels.

They will play a single round robin, with he top four advancing to the crossover semifinals pitting teams No.1 vs No. 4, and No.2 vs No.3. The winners will dispute the title.

The champion will pocket P30,000 while the second to fourth placers will get P20,000, P15,000, and P10,000, respectively. The other two teams will  receive a consolation of P5,000 each.

There will also be a special prize for the Best Libero and Most Valuable Player.
