Coach A Basketball to expand in key cities of Metro Cebu

CEBU, Philippines — Buoyed by its ardent desire to broaden its scope, Coach A Basketball looks forward to expanding its basketball camp in some key cities of Metro Cebu particularly in Lapu-Lapu, Talisay and Mandaue.

From only 10 students since its establishment last year by coach Kareem Antonio Alocillo, Coach A has substantially grown in numbers with almost 100 students now from its three campuses in Cebu City, Minglanilla and Consolacion.

“It started out as a leap of faith for me. I quit my 8am-5pm job to pursue my passion in coaching,” said Alocillo on how he formed his training ground for young aspiring cagers.

Alocillo, a member of the University of Cebu (UC) Baby Webmasters champion team during the 2008-2009 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) season, said Coach A offers four different programs.

These are the One on One program, the One Year program, Team Practice, and Summer Clinics.

“I would like to emphasize that our one-year program will start in June and will end in March. Aside from providing our students with skills and conditioning training, we also let them join basketball leagues to give the needed experience,” said Aloillo.

The 26-year-old Alocillo said their primary purpose is to have a sustainability basketball program for kids while not hindering their studies.

“Our mission is to be able to give quality basketball services to younger generations. Making them great example to the community and their peers on and off the court,” said Alocillo.

“Also, we envision to be one of the best basketball service providers such as summer clinics, one on one, team concept and one year program in the region and become avenue for players who will be recruited to top schools in the country.”

Alocillo, who served as head coach of Alegria in the Governor’s Cup, said he has added key people to help bring their organization to another level.

Among them is his father coach Albert Alocillo as overall consultant and head of coaches development, former UAAP standout and noted league organizer Paul Alelu Flores as consultant in basketball operations, and Regei Gratones as consultant in marketing operations.

“We made sure our coaches are quality. They have online classes with Coach Albert Alocillo from Coach 3A Sports Center so that all our campuses are in line with Coach A’s DNA, which involves God, preparation, humility, and sowing and reaping,” said Alcocillo.

In an attempt to raise their bar higher, Alocillo said they are planning to open in Talisay, Mandaue and Lapu Lapu City by January 2020.

“We are making it available to kids in every major city in Cebu,” assured Alocillo.

“More importantly, we are not solely basketball. We also focus on character building of the kids. We will teach them the right values that will help guide them as they journey through life ahead.”
