All set for MYBL - Cebu hoopla

CEBU, Philippines —It’s all systems go for the MVPSF Youth Basketball League-Cebu (MYBL Cebu), which will kick off on Sunday at the Magis Eagles Arena of the Sacred Heart School-Atene de Cebu in Canduman, Mandaue City.

The MYBL-Cebu is a partnership between the MVP Sports Foundation and the Cebu Youth Basketball League (CYBL). The partnership was sealed between MVPSF President Al Panlilio and CYBL tournament director Rico Navarro.

A total of 109 teams are registered for the tournament that serves as the main event of the CYBL’s 12th season. It features three age groups: Under 12, 15, and 18. All age groups will have two divisions, Division 1 for the competitive teams and Division 2 is for the developmental teams.

Among the teams include schools, ballclubs and LGU-based squads. Games will be played every weekend.

A highlight of the opening ceremony will be a goodwill game between MYBL-Cebu officials-coaches against “Team Samsam/Dondon,” a combined team of Talisay City Mayor Samsam Gullas and Cebu City Councilor Dondon Hontiveros.

The MYBL-Cebu side will be led by MVPSF Executive Director Coach Ryan Gregorio, Atty. Oscar “Jang” Moreno Jr. and the SBP’s Operations Director Butch Antonio. They will be joined by MYBL-Cebu coaches.

Team Samsam/Dondon will be composed of local officials and sportsmen. A heavy schedule of regular season MYBL-Cebu games will then complete the day.

The games of the league will be played from October 27 to April 2020 in various venues such as the Sacred Heart School Mango Avenue campus, SMS-Boystown, Aznar Coliseum, Talisay City Sports Complex, USC South, USPF, SHS-Ateneo de Cebu Canduman campus and other host teams that will play on their homecourts.

Meanwhile, a media get together for the launch of the event will be held on Saturday, October 26, with officials of the MVPSF as guests.
