Manito, Supelveda shine in San Carlos tennisfest
CEBU, Philippines — Cousins Gio John Manito and David Ezra Sepulveda went home with championship trophies in the Congress Gerardo Valmayor Jr. Cup Age-Group Tennis Tournament at San Carlos Tennis Association (SACATA) courts in San Carlos City the other night.
Manito came up with a double victory in the boys 12 and 14 while Sepulveda snared the 10-under unisex crown.
Manito lorded it over the boys 12 after overpowering Kurt Barrera of Tayasan, Negros Occidental, 6-0, 6-4.
Moments later, Manito claimed the 14-under title after edging San Carlos City’s Herman Illusorio, 2-6, 6-3, 12-10.
Sepulveda, for his part, reigned supreme in the 10-under unisex after crushing Rafa Callao also of Tayasan, 8-6, 4-1.
The fast-rising Sepulveda and Manito are expected to return to San Carlos City for Pintaflores Festival next month.
Prior to that, Sepulveda of Galbreath International School and Manito of Pardo Elementary School are expected to join the Buglasan Tennis Festival on October 17-23 in Dumaguete City. (FREEMAN)
