Cebu City finishes 2nd in Batang Pinoy

ILOILO CITY, Philippines — Team Cebu City failed to defend its title as it placed second in the overall standing in the 2019 PSC Batang Pinoy Visayas Regional Finals, which dropped off its curtains yesterday here.

 

TCC, which is considered as one of the biggest delegation, has a total of 42 gold, 55 silver and 63 bronze medals.

Host team Iloilo dethroned Cebu City with an unassailable lead of 57 golds, 49 silvers and 44 bronzes. A strong finish from their athletes in combat sports, tennis and swimming helped Iloilo in claiming the overall title.

Cebu Province came out third with 38 golds, 38 silvers and 52 bronzes while Negros Oriental (30-18-17) and Lapu-Lapu City (28-14-25) occupied the fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Rounding up the top 10 list were Bacolod (23-27-35), Mandaue (22-21-31) Dumaguete (19-23-15), Ormoc (12-15-14) and Aklan (12-8-7).

The duo of Pie Catherine Algoso and Kizil Doren Quijote handed TCC its final gold in the girls beach volleyball at the expense of Pontevedra belles, 27-25, 21-23, 15-8.

Jave Mareck Peteros, for his part, got double silver via the Blitz and standard event in chess while the distaff side saw Edelyn Vosotros also snaring the silver in the Blitz competition at the Iloilo Sports Complex's covered gym.

 Multi-titled Tiffany Claire Nocos ended her bid in tennis with another silver via the girls singles after losing to Iloilo's Althea Rose Martirez, 3-6, 9-7, 6-2 at the La Paz covered courts.

 TCC's girls softball squad also settled with a silver after losing to Bacolod, 3-9 at the Central Philippines University field.

TCC got an added six bronzes from arnis courtesy of Rizamaine Palatulan, Rodrigo Efe, Justine Dave Miole and Veronica Sa-onoy.

 Cebu Province sizzled in the final day of the chess event after bagging three golds from Alphecca Gonzales via the standard and Blitz event and John Lester Belano in the boys’ Blitz event.

Cebu Province’s baseball squad also snared the gold after sweeping all of its four games.
