Iloilo overtakes Cebu City to grab Batang Pinoy lead

ILOILO CITY, Philippines —  Defending champion Cebu City slid to second place after host team Iloilo City launched a medal assault during the third day of action in the PSC Batang Pinoy Visayas Regional Finals yesterday.

 

Iloilo stole the top spot of the overall ranking from Cebu City after a medal haul in dancesport, swimming and taekwondo. Iloilo now has 28 gold, 18 silver and 18 bronze medals.

Team Cebu City stayed at close second with 27 gold, 32 silver and 31 bronze medals followed by Cebu Province with 25-15-20 gold-silver-bronze medals.

Archer Aldrener Igot Jr. delivered three of TCC’s nine gold medals yesterday after dominating the 40m, 50m and Single FITA events at the West Visayas State University field. Aldrener together with Densil Shane Denopol also claimed the silver in the mixed team action.

Denopol also added another silver in the girls 50m event, while Khalil Jusper Abella also got silver in the 40m action.

TCC karatekas also delivered two gold medals through the efforts of Jesha Zyra Azur and Jowin May Nudalo, while Art Malaki won the gold medal in taekwondo as teammates Christian Lodovice and Hyacinth Lanuras contributed with two silvers.

Junior pinweight Kyle Cedrick Alic and heavyweight Mary Caballero handed gold medals in arnis, while Crystal Jil Bowman snared a bronze medal in anyo non-traditional event.

The end of the athletics event saw TCC winning a gold in the 4x400-meter girls relay with a time of 4:30.

Meanwhile, multi-medalist Moira Erediano scored a double-gold for Cebu Province in the 2,000m and 800m run

 Erediano also helped Cebu Province in snaring the bronze medal in the girls relay, while their boys team composed of John Luis Daligdig, Seung Lee Park, Fritz Tulod and Jibrael Umal dominated the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:54.

Aside from athletics, Cebu Province also had a gold medal assault in karatedo through the efforts of Precious Belicario, Christine Tautho and Trexie Ogoc and a silver from Jill Negapatan.

Cebu Province’s boys sepak takraw squad also upended municipality of Mina, 21-16, 21-9, for the gold medal.
