Talisay, Carcar begin title clash

CEBU, Philippines — The Talisay City Aquastars and Carcar City Lechoneros will kick off their best-of-three championship showdown in the Samsam Gullas Cup 3.0 Cebu 1st District Legacy Cup Inter-Cities and Municipalities Basketball Tournament tonight at the Talisay City Sports Complex.

Game time is set at 8 pm, right after the San Fernando Spartans and the Minglanilla Archangels commence their own race-to-2 series for third place at 6 pm.

The Aquastars advanced to the finals after terminating the Spartans, while the Lechoneros booked the other finals tickets after dethroning the Archangels.

Talisay is expected to squeeze the most from the formidable triumvirate of Jay Deiparine, Raffy Bacasmas and Keaton Clyde, while Carcar will bank on the likes of Rey Joseph Alfeche, Leonilo Martorillas and Kyle Lauronilla as they try to upset the undefeated Aquastars.

Game 2 is scheduled on February 8 at the Carcar City Sports Complex, while Game 3, if needed, will be played on February 9 back in Talisay’s turf.

The champion in the six-week tilt will take home P80,000, while the second to fourth placers will pocket P60,000, P40,000 and P20,000, respectively. (FREEMAN)
