USPF, USJ-R bag titles in CESAFI beach volley

CEBU, Philippines —  The University of Southern Philippines Foundation and University of San Jose-Recoletos volleybelles reigned in their respective divisions in the 18th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) beach volleyball tournament yesterday at the Fort San Pedro sand court in Plaza Independencia.

 

The tandem of Crisley Ann Sucalit and Iris Tito powered USPF via a straight set victory, 21-18, 21-19, over USJ-R's Linlyn Torado and Almarie Pacinio to clinch the women's title.

"We just believed in ourselves that we can win the championship this time. We applied everything we had in our training and it is our teamwork that made us win," said Sucalit, who bagged the Most Valuable Player plum. "We dedicate this to our family, our coaches and also to our teammates for their all-out support."

The Cebu Doctors University (CDU) Lady Falcons finished third place after beating University of San Carlos, 22-20, 21-16.

Meanwhile, USJ-R girls bagged their second straight title in the secondary division with a 21-17, 21-12 victory over USPF.

The Caasi sisters' Krizzia and Chriszelle prevailed over USPF's Tracy Cortes and Maria Tes Gloria.

"It was really unexpected. We just did our best and it was really a nice feeling tobe be able to defend our title. We consider this an early Christmas gift to us," said the younger Krizzia, who was hailed as MVP.

Southwestern University -Phinma settled for the third place trophy after beating University of Cebu, 21-8, 19-21, 15-6.
