Cebuana volleybelles bag UAAP season awards
CEBU, Philippines — Cebuana spikers Deanna Wong of the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) Lady Eagles and Cherry Ann Rondina of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Golden Tigresses bagged major awards in women's volleyball event of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 80.
Wong, a former University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) standout, seized the Best Setter accolade with an average of 8.56 sets per frame. She bested Jasmine Nabor of the National University (NU) and Michelle Cobb of De La Salle University (DLSU).
UST team captain Rondina, on the other hand, snared the Best Scorer plum. The pride of Compostela National High School amassed 296 points from 271 spikes, eight blocks, and 17 aces.
Meanwhile, NU's Jaja Santiago ended her UAAP career on a bright note by grabbing the Most Valuable Player (MVP) trophy. She took the Best Spiker honors.
The rest of the individual awardees were Kathleen Arado of the University of the East (Best Receiver and Best Digger), Celine Domingo of Far Eastern University (Best Blocker), Desiree Cheng of DLSU ( Best Server) and Italian freshman Allesandrini Millena of UST (Rookie of the Year).
