USC upsets USJ-R in CESAFI volleyball tilt
CEBU, Philippines - The University of San Carlos scored a dominating two-setter victory against defending champion University of San Jose Recoletos at the start of the secondary boys semifinal round of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. volleyball event at the University of San Carlos gym, yesterday.
After taking the opening set, 25-22, USC decided not to give Group A leader USJ-R a chance to force a deciding set by sealing the game, 25-20.
Unlike USJ-R, University of Southern Philippines Foundation,the top seed in Group B, defeated University of Cebu, 25-20, 25-23.
Meanwhile, USJ-R belles ended their final assignment in the elimination round with a 25-12, 25-17, victory over Cebu Eastern College, while defending secondary girls champion Southwestern University marched to the Final Four after a three-setter win over USC, 25-7, 12-25, 25-23.
In the tertiary division, Southwestern University grabbed a hard-earned 30-28, 25-16, 27-25 victory over University of the Visayas. (FREEMAN)
