BiG golfing weekend

Congratulations to the Miami Heat for winning the NBA title.

Sorry folks, I wasn’t paying too much attention to the series as my team is not there and I would rather focus my energy on watching the games of the Euro 2012 early in the mornings.

To the fans of the Heat, enjoy the moment.

To the fans of the Thunder, the team is still very young and talented and is obviously going to be a force to reckon with in the NBA.

The Business in Golf Tournament was played yesterday at the Cebu Country Club. This event is one of the toughest team events in Cebu as all players cannot afford to take it easy.

The tournament stipulates that all four scores must count for the team total.

The weather cooperated as it was fine almost the whole day except for a few minutes when it drizzled.

I still have to see the scores, but it was fun playing with Willy Go, Cristino Lim, Allan Osorio, and the famous Hans Hauri of Marco Polo Plaza Hotel.

I think the team of somebody in our flight is one of the winners.

I was at the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel the other night with the members of the board of the Cebu Football Association.

We were there to meet Dan Palami, the manager of the Philippine Azkals, who came with goalkeeping coach Christian Maly.

It is not true that the coach came here to train two former goalies of Queen City United’s 40-above team – Ricky Dakay and this deadline beater hehehe…

Among the things we talked about were plans of bringing the national team to Cebu and before the long night ended, the CFA agreed to host an international friendly this November at the Cebu City Sports Center.

It will be featuring the Azkals and one of the top teams of Southeast Asia.

Dan noted the success of the Azkals, but said that the team should not rest on its current achievements.

He said that in the past, it used to how many goals the national teams of Indonesia and Malaysia can score against the Philippines, now the Azkals even have a very good chance of beating them.

The Azkals have a busy year ahead, but the Cebuanos can look forward to seeing them in Cebu.

After the BiG, the 5th Amo Cup will be taking center stage today and tomorrow at Alta Vista Golf and Country club.

This is a two-day tournament, but participants only get to play one round.

This is in honor of the late Albino D. Gothong, who was one of the people responsible in getting me involved in the various golf tournament committees even in clubs where I am not a member.

Amo was a hardworking leader of the group and never spared any expense to get things done right.

The result of his efforts and that of the committee members were great tournaments offering fabulous prizes for the winners of the tournament and to those who are luckier in the raffles.

Amo is sorely missed by our group, but he continues to inspire us to organize events and among the many we organize, the Amo Cup is definitely the closest to our hearts.
