Copa de Casino Español set

CEBU, Philippines - The sixth edition of the annual Copa de Casino Español will be held next month featuring sports and parlor games that will be competed among members and invited guests of the club.

“We expect a stiff competition since there are more players this year as membership in the club has gone higher,” said Nonoy Tirol, overall chairman of the tournament in a press conference yesterday at the Casino Español de Cebu along V. Ranudo Street, this city.

The event will be highlighted by the golf tournament where a brand new Kia Picanto is at stake as hole-in-one prize.

Running for about 12 years, the golf tournament that will be held this April 11 at the Cebu Country Club will have classes A, B, and C for members and the guest division. It is expected to draw close to 200 participants.

The golf tournament is also going to be participated in by members of Club Filipino, Mactan Island Golf and Country Club, Cebu Country Club, Alta Vista Golf and Country Club and Mercedes Plantation Golf and Country Club.

Aside from golf, the event features five other sporting disciplines including tennis, badminton and bowling.

Bowling will roll off this April 9, while tennis and badminton will start in the second and third week of April.

Also parlor games such as poker, liars dice, ballot and domino will also be contested to create a genuine atmosphere of fun and fellowship among the participants, while ballroom dancing competition will be introduced for the first time in the event.

“We have incorporated parlor games and ballroom dancing that will add to the essence of promoting camaraderie and well-being to our members,” added Tirol.

Also present during the press conference were Copa de Casino committee members Bruno Gonzalez, Tony Lozada, Louie Moro, Paco Jarque, Rolly Borres and Noel Ting, general sales manager of Kia Motors.  - THE FREEMAN
