CEBU, Philippines - The Pulang-bato volleybelles continued their winning ways, the latest was a two-set disposition of Budlaan in women’s volleyball event of Mayor Tomas R. Osmeña’s “My City Games 2010” at the Cebu City Sports Center.

Pulang-bato whipped Budlaan in the first set, 25-19, and then finished off its hapless for in convincing fashion, 25-16.

Barangays Sirao and Guba also sustained their sizzling run, albeit in a hard-earned manner. Sirao scraped through a three-set thriller over Mabini, 25-15, 21-25, 25-11, while Guba overcame a first-set debacle to turn the tables on Lusaran, 21-25, 25-20, 25-14.

This year’s edition of the annual sportsfest drew the highest number of participants with over 60 barangays divided into nine brackets taking part.

Aside from earning berths into the quarterfinals, the topnotchers in each bracket will be given cash prizes. Bigger bounty awaits the top three winners overall per sporting discipline.

“This yearly league spearheaded by Mayor (Tomas) Osmeña was made to promote sportsmanship, camaraderie and unity among the barangays of Cebu City. Aside from volleyball, it also features different kinds of sport like basketball, badminton and soccer,” said Cebu City volleyball athletic director Raul Gonzales. – Marigold P.
