Encabo lifts Blessed John XXIII past CIC-Mandaue in Aboitiz Cup

- Sona Mae V. Povadora -
John Dexterius Encabo led Blessed John XXIII Seminary as they overwhelmed Colegio dela Inmaculada-Mandaue, 5-0, in the boys-15-under division of the 9th Aboitiz Football Cup yesterday at the San Roque field in Subangdaku, Mandaue City.

Encabo bolstered Blessed John's huge victory by scoring a hat trick to cement their lead in bracket A with a 3-0 win-loss record.

The high-spirited Encabo orchestrated the attack, sneaking in early in the game at the 17th minute to put them ahead, 1-0.

CIC-M, who blanked University of Southern Philippines last weekend, worked just hard but their efforts could not pierce the defensive walls of Blessed John.

Encabo again found the back of the net a minute after the second half, while Joseph Lindley Camus struck at the 55th minute to stretch its lead to 3-0.

Adding more woes to CIC-M was another goal from Chris Niño de los Santos in the 61st minute before Encabo banged in his final contribution at the 84th minute to wrap up the game.

On the other hand, FC Inter Cebu went unchallenged when Don Bosco Youth Center defaulted its game to win its first assignment in the tournament while the latter remains winless.

"Upat ra ang nitunga sa DB kay naay activity sa ilang eskwelahan," said table official Sherwin Rodriguez.

On the other hand, Reino Ross Amora went on a scoring blitz as FC Inter Cebu crushed its sister team FC Lapu-Lapu, 9-1, in the men's league.

Ronny Agulo opened the scoring at the 28th minute, however, Lapu-Lapu's Luke Martin Abragon equalized the match at the 39th minute.

But the unstoppable Amora started the rampage a minute after Abragon scoring at the 40th, 56th, 65th, 80th and 83rd minutes.

Jehel Pelanio and Gary Quano chipped in at the 60th and 74th minute.
