Rama sets meeting with LCP on disaster concerns

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama is set to return to Metro Manila next week, this time for another convergence meeting with the League of Cities of the Philippines of which he is the national president.

“I will be in Manila in the days to come…November 9, 10, 11 and 12…and that is the LCP…that we will have our convergence of public servants in Taguig,” said Rama.

The mayor said this after the signing of his executive order No.13 which is the Oplan Likay Landslide.

Rama shared in brief that part of their upcoming meeting will tackle their best practices concerning typhoons and other disasters.

LCP adviser, Mayor Jerry Treñas of Iloilo City, is also expected to discuss with the league regarding possible interventions to disasters as well as about the matters on Typhoon Paeng.

Rama also said part of their initial discussion was supposed to be to ask President Bongbong Marcos to declare a national state of calamity to several regions, but the latter already declared it even before the LCP could submit its plea to the President.

With that, Rama is thankful for President Marcos’ decision to declare some areas in the country in a state of calamity.

Not too long ago, Rama who was the first host of the LCP’s first converge meeting since electing new officials of the said league, handed over financial help to affected LGUs in Luzon from a major earthquake.

No mention of another donation has been mentioned anymore, but Rama together with the rest of the LCP officials and members are expected to extend help to the latest calamity-stricken area.

For the past several weeks and months, Rama has been going back and forth to Manila, mainly for investment “begging and seeking” in line with his vision of a Singapore-like Cebu City.

And although Rama is mainly going to Manila for the LCP, he is also expected to meet some other possible investors as well as follow up pledges of some made earlier. — GMR (FREEMAN)
