Transport boost seen to lure more investors to Olango Is
“We will make the island as an eco-tourism site. Nindot i-explore ang Olango Island. We can see beautiful beaches, watch the migratory birds, naay marine sanctuaries, naay mga dolphins ug thresher sharks. Naa sad diri ang biggest cross-guitar,” said Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan during the launching and inauguration of Sta. Rosa Ferry Express 2020.

CEBU, Philippines —  The Olango Island, an eco-tourism destination in Lapu-Lapu City, is getting another boost with the inauguration of a fastcraft that makes travel from the mainland to the island faster and safer.

Sta. Rosa is one of the barangays in Olango Island.

Chan said the modern ferry boat with a capacity of 160 passengers is the second to serve the route. Overall, there are four vessels that travel to Olango Island- two ferry boats and two ro-ro (roll-on roll-off) vessels.

“Nindot diri suruyan pud kay presko ang hangin, walay trapik unya daghan ta og mga tourist spots diri,” said Chan.

The modernization of ferry boats is in compliance of the latest order from the Maritime Industry Authority. The mayor expects more ferry boats to travel from the mainland to the island especially that two developers are now on the process of constructing two subdivisions in the island.

Another power company is also putting up a power plant in the island to address the electricity requirement. Chan said Vibant power company plans to put up a 5,000 kwh power plant in the island. This is on top of the 3,500 kwh power plant that was recently inaugurated.

The island’s current demand for electricity is at 1,200 kwh per day.

“So, atong makita na dako na kita og sobra sa atong power supply. Unya moabot na og 8,500 kwh per day ang atong power supply sa Olango Island,” the mayor said.

With these developments, Chan is also expecting investors to come to the island.

“I am very happy of this development, this is a sign of progress,” he added. — FPL (FREEMAN)
