Ginatilan mayor, wife test positive for COVID-19

CEBU, Philippines —  Ginatilan, Cebu Mayor Dean Michael Singco and his wife, Hannah, were tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

“Akong gikasubo nga pagpahibalo (nga) ako ug akong misis si Hannah puros positive sa COVID-19,” Singco said in a statement posted yesterday on his Facebook account.

The mayor said his wife, a “legal frontliner,” attended a court hearing last Thursday and had a fever the following day.

They underwent the RT-PCR saliva testing for COVID-19 on Monday and their results came out confirming they were positive for the virus.

The mayor and his wife are currently isolated in Cebu City, while the rest of their household members are placed under quarantine and are set for swab tests.

Singco said he is currently asymptomatic and that his wife is no longer showing symptoms of the virus.

“As of today (yesterday), asymptomatic pa ko. Ug si Hannah wala nay hilanat. With Gods grace, wala na untay lain pa nga mga symptoms,” he said.

Singco is ninth local chief executive in Cebu confirmed to have been afflicted with the disease.

Other Cebu mayors who got the virus were Danimo Diamante (Tuburan), Sun Shimura (Daanbantayan), Marlon Garcia (Barili), Junard “Ahong” Chan (Lapu- Lapu City), Lakambini Reluya (San Fernando), Jose Antonio Pintor (Asturias), Michael Angelo Sestoso (Alcoy), and just recently Samsam Gullas (Talisay City).

Moreover, Singco assured his constituents that delivery of basic services in Ginatilan will remain unhampered despite his temporary absence.

“Ang atong trabaho ug serbisyo sa mga opisina sa munisepyo magpadayon gihapon. Ako usab magtrabaho gihapon while in isolation,” he said. — KQD (FREEMAN)
