Lapu-Lapu officials promise solar power, other projects to Olango residents
CEBU, Philippines — To address power shortage and attract investors in Olango island, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan has promised the residents in the area to bring in solar power into their households and on the streets.
Chan said the solar power will help address the island’s power shortage. The island has a total demand of 1,200 megawatts but the actual supply is only 750 megawatts because one of the two power generators of Mactan Electric Company and its subcontractor is allegedly not working.
“So, mao na ang ilahang pag-brownout gi-schedule schedule matag barangay,” Ahong said.
Chan said solar panels donated by his friend will be installed in Pangan-an Island. He said the donor also donated computers to the students in the barangay.
On top of the donated solar panels, the city government has also allocated solar lamps for 7,000 households. Each lamp has a 5-year warranty.
The mayor said a desalination plant will be put up on the island to also address the water needs of the people in the area.
A fish port will be built in Angasil wharf where fish cages will be made available for tourists who want to experience fishing and have their catch cooked on site for fresh food dining experience.
Meanwhile, Congresswoman Paz Radaza gathered some residents in Sitio Asinan, Barangay Sabang in the same island for the revival of the eco-tourism park.
The representative of the lone district of Lapu-Lapu in Congress wants to bring back the tourism activities and the livelihood of the residents in the area.
“Akong personal nga decision nga panindoton og balik ang maong tourist destination aron adunay panginabuhian ang taga Sitio Asinan. When there is tourist in the area, there is livelihood. And with this, they're able to provide food on their tables,” Radaza said. —/FPL (FREEMAN)
