CEBU, Philippines —  The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) is asking all government agencies, local government units, academic institutions, state universities and colleges, and the private sector at the national and subnational levels to actively participate in and support the 31st National Statistics Month (NSM) celebration this month.

In Central Visayas, a virtual opening ceremony is set tomorrow, where the Department of Information and Communication Technology will host.

This month’s NSM celebration will carry the theme “Bridging Digital Gaps: Making Information Available To All.”

PSA-7 Regional Director Ariel Florendo, in a statement, said that the theme anchors on the availability of information for all in digital and computer technologies adopting faster and better delivery of timely and quality statistics for sound policies and programs that are produced through effective innovations.

“The Filipino people will be assured of the achievement of the country’s long-term vision of a comfortable life for all,” said Florendo.

The World’s Statistics Day will also be observed on October 20, which will also be participated in by statistical and other line agencies.

Presidential Proclamation No. 647 that former President Corazon C. Aquino signed on September 29, 1990 has declared every October as the National Statistics Month.

The NSM aims to promote, enhance and instill awareness and appreciation on the importance and value of statistics to the different sectors of the society.

It also aims to elicit the cooperation and support of the general public in upgrading the quality and standards of statistics in the country.

Several activities were slated for the month-long celebration that include press/media forum, radio guesting and interview, conduct of statistical and trivia quiz, essay writing/slogan/poster making contest, lecture and information dissemination, film showing, statistical exhibits, among others. — GAN (FREEMAN)
