MCIA consolidates operations in T1

CEBU, Philippines —  GMR MEGAWIDE Cebu Airport Corporation, the terminal operator of the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA), will consolidate all passenger and aircraft operations in Terminal 1 (T1), including international departures amidst the restrictions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic that affected both domestic and international flights.

In a statement, GMCAC said this will enable MCIA to streamline operations and maximize terminal efficiencies during this period of reduced passenger traffic and aircraft movements.

The change will be effective on Nov. 1 and will remain in effect until further notice.

What will remain in Terminal 2 is the international arrivals due to the mandatory RT-PCR testing procedures and required protocols for all arriving international passengers.

“The consolidation of operations in T1 will allow GMCAC to align capacity and resources more appropriately to the current level of demand and optimize the use of utilities to a manner more commensurate with current traffic, without sacrificing quality,” said Andrew Harrison, GMCAC Chief Executive Adviser.

Harrison added that as traffic on both domestic and international routes increases to near normalcy, GMCAC will revert to two-terminal operations, subject to the air traffic and passenger throughput.

“Health and safety protocols will be further enhanced to reduce contact and touchpoints through the passenger’s journey. We ask for your patience and cooperation as we continuously find ways to ensure the well-being of our passengers and airport staff when travelling through MCIA,” Harrison said.

GMCAC added that passenger signage and wayfinding will be modified over the coming weeks to support the consolidated operations as public advisories will be communicated via social media, website, and print media.

It added that the ticketing booths of international airlines currently situated at the T2 Departures Level will be replicated in a designated International Airline Ticketing Lobby in T1.

Passengers are also reminded to check with their airlines for the schedule of available flights and ensure that the required travel documents are complete before the scheduled date of travel. — GAN (FREEMAN)
