CEBU, Philippines —  Less than two years before the 2022 elections, all the 13 barangay captains in the Municipality of Cordova have endorsed Ako Bisaya Partylist Representative Sonny Lagon for congressman of the Sixth District of the Province of Cebu.

Led by Association of Barangay Councils President Francisco Ando, the barangay captains made the manifestation of support in an informal meeting at Lagon's residence in Barangay Tilhaong, Consolacion last Saturday.

Cordova and Consolacion are the only two towns comprising the district in the next elections following the separation of Mandaue City as a lone congressional district currently represented by Rep. Emmarie “Lolypop” Ouano-Dizon.

Ouano-Dizon is presumably seeking reelection in Mandaue City's lone district. Reports have it that former mayor, now Consolacion Vice Mayor Teresa Alegado, and former mayor, now Presidential Adviser on Legislative Affairs, Secretary Adelino Sitoy, are interested in the congressional post for the sixth district.

Ando said they have not informed Sitoy yet of their endorsement of Lagon.

Catarman Barangay Captain Alejandro Aro explained that it was during the birthday of Sitoy’s daughter, Cordova Mayor Mary Therese Sitoy-Cho last June 20 when the plan of Lagon, who was present, was discussed.

“Mao gyud sad ang gusto ni mayor nga si Cong. Sonny ang modagan pagka-congressman, iya hangyoon iya papa. Mo-support mi ni mayor,” Aro said.

Pilipog Barangay Captain Anabelle Baraquia said whoever will run for congressman, their support to Lagon is a closed deal.

“Amo unta nga magkahiusa lang sila si Noy Ade ug Cong. Sonny,” she said.

Bangbang Barangay Captain Dionesio Sumagang Jr. also said that even if Sitoy will run for congressman, their support will be for Lagon, whom he described as non-traditional politician and active.

Dapitan Barangay Captain Baby Villaspin said their support for Lagon is a payback for his kindness knowing that their team in Cordova last 2019 elections led by Cho has supported other partylist.

“Bawos lang ni sa tabang niya karon.  Amo gitabangan nga partylist wa man,” he added. — GAN (FREEMAN)
