Lapu-Lapu mural paintings to grace city’s empty walls

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Ahong Chan has assured that he is not changing the "colorful colors" of the city, but instead he will launch mural paintings in the city's empty walls that will depict Lapu-Lapu as a hero.

Chan said that these mural paintings are part of the preparation for the 500 years of Christianity.

"Dili na nato usbon ang color sa siyudad pero kadtong mga lugar nga angay butangan og mural paintings, atoa nang papintalan," Chan said.

Chan, who graced the blessing and turnover ceremony of the first Ronald McDonald Bahay Bulilit Learning Center in Lapu-Lapu-City located in Barangay Pajo, said that aside from depicting Lapu-Lapu as a hero, the mural paintings should also depicts the city's rich culture and heritage, tourists spots, among others.

"Ang atong mural paintings ang theme kay anything Lapu-Lapu nga maka-depict sa atong culture and heritage and products at the circumferential roads," the mayor said.

He added that he still has to enter a contract with paint companies for the provisions of paints to the artists (both professional and students), who will be doing the mural paintings.

Chan said he expects this project will start by December 14, which is also beginning of the countdown to 500 years of Christianity celebration. /GAN (FREEMAN)
