PPP pushed for SRP’s internet service project

Alicia Ivy L. Chua - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu City government is eyeing for a public-private partnership (PPP) with a telecommunications company as it pushes for faster internet services at the South Road Properties (SRP).

Once the project materializes, the city government will get a portion of the telecommunications company’s income from its subscribers at the SRP.

A contractual agreement between the government and the private sector, the PPP has been proven to be beneficial since it improves efficiency in the implementation of the project.

SRP manager Jose Daluz III shared that “the thrust of the mayor is this, to enter with a PPP with a telco, so that the SRP mag-income siya sa mga subscribers sa fiber optics and internet.”

The telecommunications company is expected to have thousands of subscribers with their telephone, internet or fibre optics, and data services.

“At no cost sa Cebu City, sila mubutang and naa mi share sa income,” said Daluz.

Daluz also said they have been discussing the project with some telecommunications companies.

“Daghan na kaayo initially ni agree nga mga telco company, maglumba ni sila kinsa muhatag og maayo nga sharing nato,” he added.

It was not yet decided, however, how much the city will earn and which telco company will undertake the project. (FREEMAN)
