PDEA eyes getting along with VP Leni

Iris Hazel M. Mascardo - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-7 said they hope for a harmonious working relationship with the newly-appointed co-chairperson of the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD), Vice President Leni Robredo, as it intensifies the campaign against illegal drugs.

Acting PDEA-7 regional director Wardley Getalla said they welcome the appointment of the vice president, saying that the law enforcers are happy to have additional anti-drug advocates.

“Pati yung mga local government officials natin, mga mayors, down to barangay level ay na-intensify yung pakikiisa sa ating anti-drug campaigns para mas mapabilis ang ating solusyon sa problema natin sa illegal na droga,” Getalla told reporters in a press conference in the PDEA-7 office yesterday morning.

As for the possible changes with regards to the strategies in implementing the war on drugs under the leadership of Robredo, Getalla said they have not received any directives yet as Robredo is still set to have a meeting for her particular role.

“Aantayin natin yan (directives) at kung ano man ang magiging directives ay ikinalulugod natin na ipapatupad at susundin,” Getalla said.

Getalla added they hope to intensify the logistical support especially around the seaports in the region, as these were observed vulnerable to the entry of illegal drugs.

He also encouraged the community to be involved in the campaign against illegal drugs.

At present, the PDEA-7 is preparing their orientation and previous strategies to present to the vice president.   BRP (FREEMAN)
