Security measures in place for Undas in Cebu City

CEBU, Philippines – Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella yesterday gathered all the different department heads and cemetery managers to ensure that all measures are in place for a peaceful and orderly Kalag-Kalag.

During the meeting, representatives from the Cebu City Police Office’s (CCPO) assured that their security and safety plan is ready.

Police personnel will be deployed in every cemetery where droves of people are expected to visit their departed loved ones on November 1 and 2.

Aside from the policemen to be positioned at the entrance gates and on the streets, there will also be police personnel roaming inside the cemeteries.

Just like in the previous years, alcoholic drinks, gambling, loud stereos and sharp blades are still prohibited in the cemeteries.

The CCPO is already on heightened alert, with no personnel allowed to take on a leave or be absent from work.

City Hall’s Prevention, Restoration, Order, Beautification, Enhancement (PROBE) team has also secured the sidewalks from obstructions to pave the way for the influx of people.

Also, the Cebu City Transportation Office issued a traffic rerouting plan effective October 30 to November 2.

Diversions of roads will be implemented and designated parking areas will be assigned in the cemeteries.

Engineer Joel Biton, head of Department of Public Services, shared that they have already started cleaning the public and private cemeteries.

Metro aides will start working October 31 through November 2.

Portable toilets, water stations, and signages will be put up in every cemetery.

Likewise, 14 government ambulances will be on standby for the Kalag-Kalag, while three ambulance will be deployed in the mountain areas. JMD (FREEMAN)
