CEBU, Philippines — There will now be tight security implemented at the Cebu City Hall of Justice following the attempt to kill Atty. Inocencio dela Cerna last Monday, this according to Cebu City Police Office director Police Colonel Gemma Vinluan.

Vinluan said they have installed a viewing deck in the area where a policeman can observe the surroundings, they have also assigned a police patrol car on standby to patrol the area.

She added that for now they are still waiting for the official statement of Dela Cerna regarding the incident. However, she assured the lawyer is being cooperative in the investigation.

Vinluan also said she already met with Cebu City Executive Judge Macaundas Hadjirasul and they talked about what to do to secure the courts.

Dela Cerna has just come out of court in the Qimonda building and was boarding his vehicle at the grounds of the Hall of Justice when a man approached him and opened fire. The suspect also aimed his firearm at the building’s security personnel, as well as at the policeman who attempted to intervene.

With the bullets missing him, Dela Cerna was quick to drive his car out of the compound but the suspect, with the help of an accomplice, chased him on board a motorcycle and continued firing.

Later at a red light, Dela Cerna stepped out of his vehicle and fired at the suspects with his own gun, forcing the latter to flee.

Vinluan said another thing she talked about with Hadjirasul was their adopt-a-police station project where a lawyer will be assigned to every police station to look at police operations and aid in the filing of cases. — BRP (FREEMAN)
