P846 thousand in ‘shabu’ seized, 8 nabbed
CEBU, Philippines — Eight suspected drug personalities were arrested in separate buy-bust operations in the cities of Cebu and Talisay in a two-day operation, resulting in the seizure of P846,000 worth of shabu.
The first operation was conducted in Sitio Tintay, Barangay Talamban, Cebu City where Gleen Espina Araña, 35, was arrested Tuesday.
Seized from Araña was one medium pack of shabu weighing 654 grams worth P442,000.
It was followed by another buy-bust operation in Barangay Kamputhaw.
Authorities arrested Ruby Caang Fernandez, 30, and Edgardo Montesclaros Salcedo, 35, who were caught in possession of 30 grams of shabu worth P204,000.
In a separate operation in Barangay Pooc, Talisay City yesterday morning, Martin Pardillo Canales, a high-value target, was arrested.
Also arrested were four newly-identified drug personalities, namely Jayson Romero Cañizares, Rodel Alcantara Restauro, Rosval Alcantara Restauro and Welbert barliso Abasial,
Confiscated from the suspects were 34.21 grams of shabu worth P200,000.
Cañizares told The FREEMAN that he buys drugs from Canales at a discounted rate to resell them.
Police Major Ildefonso Miranda, police community relations officer at the Cebu Provincial Police Office, said the suspects were placed under surveillance for a week prior to their arrest.
The suspects will face charges for violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Shooting
Meanwhile, a teenager was shot dead by an unidentified suspect in Sitio Lower Kawayan, Barangay Sambag 2, Cebu City Tuesday evening.
Raymond Aribalo Pastor, 19, was found dead at the back of their house.
Initial police investigation showed that Pastor was allegedly involved in illegal drug activities in the village.
The police though are yet to determine the motive behind the killing. — KBQ (FREEMAN)
