Woman charged for throwing stone at minor

Mylen P. Manto - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — For allegedly inflicting physical injuries to a minor, a woman is facing a case of slight physical injuries before Branch 22 of the Regional Trial Court in Cebu City.

In her complaint, a 14-year old girl, a resident of Sitio Bugnay 2, Lutaw-lutaw Bliss, Barangay Labangon, alleged that Jaycel Monreal Maning, her neighbor, threw stones at her hitting her right elbow which required medical attendance for one week.

Prior to that, she said Maning and her family were mad at them after the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) conducted a drug operation in their neighborhood.

Maning accused her family, especially her father, of reporting Maning’s illegal drugs activities to the PDEA, which they denied.

"Sometime June 2017, a month after we moved in our house where we are residing now, the PDEA conducted a drug raid in our neighborhood. That's when our family learned that some of our neighbors are involved in illegal drugs, especially herein respondent and her family," the judicial affidavit reads.

After the raid, the minor alleged Maning and her family were furious at them and humiliated them by shouting "pekeng PDEA."

Because they don't want any trouble, they avoided the Maning family.

However, February 11, 2018, she saw Maning's mother outside their residence had an argument with her mother. Maning's mother claimed that they were the true owner of the lot where their house was constructed, but failed to show proof.

They were humiliated and stones were thrown at their house causing damage to their property, the minor said.

Her parents reported the matter before the barangay.

At 11:30 p.m. of the same date, the minor said she and her father were outside their house. Suddenly, Maning allegedly threw stones at them hitting her elbow. As proof, medical certificates were attached to her complaint.

The minor added Maning allegedly threatened to kill her and her family.

"There are times that I could not sleep. I can still remember respondent's vicious stares, especially the time when respondent made a sign of slashing her throat while staring at me," read the judicial affidavit. (FREEMAN)
