Two nabbed for trying to bribe police

CEBU, Philippines — Two people were arrested for allegedly giving police money for the release of a companion detained at the San Nicolas Police Station last Sunday evening.

Judy Ann Sobrevilla, 21, and Eliazar Piloton, both residents of Sitio Almacin, Barangay Calamba, were apprehended by police after they allegedly gave P10,000 to an officer.

The lover of Sobrevilla’s sister, Albren Anthony Abenoha, landed in prison after a buy-bust operation conducted by police earlier that day.

Confiscated from Abenoha were illegal drugs worth P7,480.

“Ni offer na sila og ten thousand para buhi-an or i-lower ang case sa nadakpan,” said Bancoleta, chief of police in San Nicolas Station.  (They offered to pay P10,000 for the release of the suspect or to lower the case.)

The two reportedly tried to offer money to the operatives and they were given a warning by the officers.

Bancoleta added that the two went back to the station and brought money with them.

Sobrevilla allegedly negotiated with authorities while Piloton handed the P10,000 money.

For her part, Sobrevilla did not expect things to turn out the way they did.

“Katong kwarta gi tampo-tampo rato namo mga paryente, unya wala mi kahibalo. Giingon ra padad-on mig kwarta, amo sad gihatagag kwarta sa kauban nako (Piloton),” said Sobrevilla. (The money was collected from our relatives.  We were only told to bring the money here and my companion gave it to the police. — Imarie Jane D. Madarieta (FREEMAN)
