CEBU, Philippines — All security measures from concerned agencies are now in place to maintain a peaceful and orderly celebration of Christmas and the Sinulog festival.

Cebu City Councilor David Tumulak, who sits as the chairman on public order and safety and the deputy mayor over police matters, told The FREEMAN that different offices are closely monitoring the city at present.

These offices include the Philippine National Police (PNP), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO), Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CCDRRMO), among others.

“So ready nata.  Mao to’y final meeting but og duna’y mga changes magpatawag rami og meeting,” he said.

Tumulak said that it is a good development that, as early as now, the different agencies are prepared in securing the city during these festivals.

However, he could not mention the specific measures they would be implementing for security reasons.

Tumulak assured the public that the law enforcers are monitoring public areas such as malls, terminals, ports and others.

As expected, during the yuletide season, several people would be converging in public areas for various activities.

In addition, it is expected that numerous tourists from other countries and people from different towns will be witnessing the Sinulog festival held every third Sunday of January to honor the blessed child, Señor Sto. Niño.

“Basta ang bottomline ani is to secure the city in order to have a safe celebration of Christmas and Sinulog,” he said. (FREEMAN)
