Barug-PDP launches election headquarters
CEBU, Philippines — Acknowledging the lack of resources, the Barug-Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan will establish at least six headquarters across Cebu City in preparation for the May 2019 elections.
Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella led the opening and blessing of the north district headquarters at the back of Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the North Reclamation Area yesterday.
The south district headquarters is at Rama Compound in Barangay Basak San Nicolas, while the main office is on Raman Street.
“All of these headquarters is for Barug-PDP Laban which will cater the immediate needs for our elections and for the campaign. This is our strategy nga we have many satellite headquarters para dunay immediate response during the campaign period,” Labella told reporters.
Each headquarter has its own function for technical requirements of the campaign, for administrative needs, mobilization of teams, and meetings, among others.
Labella said the opposition decided to establish several number of headquarters since the group is not the incumbent administration.
“The headquarters are needed so that we can consolidate our candidates, our supporters, our leaders in particular area because some cannot go to Rama compound while some cannot come here. In order for their access and convenience, we have to group, regroup and discuss matters pertaining to our political agenda,” he said, adding that the Bando Osmeña-Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK) is a “formidable” group because of their resources.
There will be headquarters in the law office of Councilor Jocelyn Pesquera and at the residence of the Cuencos.
The other headquarters will be in barangays Apas, Talamban, and Lahug.
Acknowledging the major bailiwicks of the other group, Labella admitted that the BOPK is supported by the barangay officials of two big barangays in the city—Guadalupe in the south and Lahug in the north district.
“We admit. Lig-on gyud. These are the biggest barangays in the south and the north. The barangay captains are BOPK supporters. That’s admitted. We cannot deny that but it is the people who will actually decide,” Labella said, adding that the opposition will just work hard for the group.
As per the initial barangay meetings in Guadalupe and Lahug, Labella said the support for the opposition is “very encouraging.” (FREEMAN)
