CEBU, Philippines —  The Police Regional Office (PRO)-7 said the observance of All Souls’ Day was generally peaceful.

As of 12 noon yesterday, at least 1.3 million individuals visited the 444 cemeteries in the region.

PRO-7 Director Debold Sinas said that they have not recorded any untoward incident.  He said the people adhered to the rules and regulations they have imposed during the two-day holiday.

As of this writing, 83 bladed weapons, 28 liquor bottles and 100 other prohibited items were turned over.

Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) Director Royina Garma said at least 12,000 turned up at the 21 cemeteries under the CCPO, as of 12 noon yesterday.

Garma said the personnel deployed will still be in their position.

However, she has allowed her station commanders to assess whether it would be necessary for them to go back to their original posts.

“Sa Saturday, our cops can officially get back to their posts, pwede na sila magdahan-dahan, and it will be up to the station commander kung sa tingin niya dapat mayroon pang pulis,” she said.

She added that the city’s two biggest public cemeteries in Barangays Carreta and Calamba were peaceful.

Police Senior Inspector Joemar Pomarejos, chief of Waterfront police where Carreta falls under, said no significant incident took place during Undas.

At the Calamba Public Cemetery, Chief Inspector Allan Rosario said that the observance of the All Saints Day and All Souls’ Day at the biggest public cemetery has been peaceful.

Garma said that cops deployed have followed religiously the deployment plan.

“Maganda kasi nasunod ang ating deployment plan kaya naman, generally nagging peaceful ang observance ng Undas,” she said. — GAN (FREEMAN)
