CPPO won’t tap BIN for “Undas” security

Mae Clydyl L. Avila - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) will not be tapping force multipliers from the barangay intelligence network or BIN for security during the All Souls’ and All Saints’ Day observance.

Senior Superintedent Royina Garma, CCPO director, said that they are still in the process of screening the active BIN members.

"We will not use BIN for the Undas while we are filtering the names of those who are active, mahirap na," she said.

The screening is aimed to ensure that the name BIN will not be used as a cover for any private armed groups.

The move stemmed from the arrest of an armed person in Archbishop Palace who claimed he is a member of BIN who is tasked to secure the witness of a bloody shooting incident which claimed five dead people in Barangay Malubog.

Meanwhile, Cebu Provincial Police Office (CCPO) Deputy Director for Operations Supt. Melbert Glade Esguerra told reporters in a press conference yesterday that part of their plan is to establish police assistance desks, and place more cops in converging areas, such as the transportation areas, cemeteries and churches.

He said that a workshop will be conducted today for policemen to identify municipalities which might need augmentation.

"We have the template already for observance of Undas. We are anticipating nga despite the reminders, naa gihapon magdala og mga bawal. That's why we will constantly remind the public to follow rules. If not there are consquences," Esguerra said.

Police Regional Office in Central Visayas spokesperson Superintendent Reyman Tolentin said that the preparations will be finalized by this week after the regional meeting. — MBG (FREEMAN)
