AWOL cop faces drug charges
CEBU, Philippines — A former police officer is facing charges before the court for allegedly selling and possessing shabu.
Prosecutor II Benison Harayo held Roger Pogoy, 48, a resident of Barangay Pahina Central, Cebu City for trial after finding probable cause.
Pogoy was arrested in a buy-bust operation conducted by Carbon police on September 26, 2018 after receiving information of the former’s alleged illegal activities.
In an inquest proceeding, Pogoy, who went on absence without leave (AWOL), opted not to undergo preliminary investigation to answer the allegations filed against him. Instead, he manifested to face the charges before the court.
Harayo recommended no bail for both charges—illegal selling and illegal possession of shabu.
In their joint-affidavit, Carbon police said a concerned citizen reported about Pogoy’s illegal drug business in Sitio Omega, Barangay Pahina Central.
Pogoy was placed under surveillance.
During the buy-bust, police recovered 5.61 grams of shabu from Pogoy’s possession.
Pogoy is currently detained at the Cebu City Jail while his cases are pending before the court. (FREEMAN)
