2 dead, 1 nabbed in Talisay drug bust
CEBU, Philippines — A drug operation in Talisay City resulted in a shootout that led to the death of two suspected drug personalities.
Elements of Talisay City Police Station conducted a buy-bust operation in Barangay San Roque last Monday night.
A poseur-buyer transacted with Ronnie Domin Co, Eduardo Piloto Jr. alias “Lantoy” and Errol Fernandez.
After the transaction, the covert cop tried to arrest the suspects with the help of two policemen.
However, Fernandez and Piloto allegedly drew out their handguns and fired at the police.
The police fired back at the suspects that resulted in the death of Fernandez and Piloto.
Co was unscathed because he did not resist arrest.
Superintendent Marlu Conag, chief of Talisay City police, said that the suspects were under surveillance for two weeks.
The police recovered six packs of shabu and the two firearms used by suspects in the shootout.
Conag said the suspects are noted drug-peddlers in Talisay City.
Co has a pending charge for a murder case.
The exchange of text messages between the three also revealed that they planned to rob a convenience store.
“Magandang bagay na napigilan ang mga suspect na mag-perpetrate ng krimen kasi basi doon sa texts nila plano nila magnakaw ng 7/11. Kung hindi sila lumaban, hindi naman sila mapapatay. Ang atin is we also need to safeguard the lives of the operatives,” Conag said.
Meanwhile, for allegedly selling dangerous drugs, a 17-year-old boy will be facing a drug case and will have to stay in jail while the case is pending in court because there is no bail recommended for his temporary liberty.
Prosecutor II Verna Merrelos held a minor, a resident of Sitio Kahuyan, Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City, for trial after finding probable cause.
In an inquest proceeding, the minor chose not to undergo further proceedings to answer the allegations filed against him.
He manifested to face the charges against him in court.
The minor was arrested by Mambaling police on September 14 in a buy-bust operation.
He is detained at the Cebu City Jail. — MBG (FREEMAN)
