Lorraine Mitzi A. Ambrad - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  Five Korean nationals were nabbed by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI-7) for operating illegal online gambling in Lapu-Lapu City Wednesday night.

Kim Sung Youl, Dae Seung Moo, Yang Wondong, Yong Ji, and Jun Song were arrested in their apartments during two consecutive operations in Barangay Pajo and Barangay Basak by virtue of a search warrant.

Based on their monitoring, NBI-7 executive officer Arnel Pura said that the suspects have been operating approximately for seven months.

NBI-7 Director Patricio Bernales said their team conducted the search at night until dawn in order to catch the suspects during their actual conduct of illegal operations.

“Maong kadlawon para naa gyuy trabaho. Naa gyuy makita nga online sya,” he said.

“Dugay ang surveillance nato ana because we have to involve man gud og mga telco (telecommunications companies),” Bernales explained.

Bernales revealed that their clients are also Koreans who are in their country.

There are other identified personalities who may be connected to the illegal gambling operations of the Koreans but their names are withheld as the investigation is still ongoing.

NBI will be checking the status of the suspects’ stay in the Philippines and they will inform the Bureau of Immigration about the arrest of the five.

A case for violation of RA 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act will be filed against the Koreans at the fiscal’s office of Lapu-Lapu City.  MBG (FREEMAN)
