HPG-7 record shows 1 motorcycle stolen each day
CEBU, Philippines — An average of one motorcycle is stolen every day in Central Visayas according to an official of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG)-7.
Police Senior Inspector Michael Gingoyon of HPG-7 said that of the 30 cases recorded each month, only 11 are solved.
He encouraged motorcycle owners to install a global positioning system (GPS) on their units.
“Mas maayo nga mag-install og GPS sa ilang motor kay og dili man gyud malikayan nga makawat ang ilang motor, at least dali nato ma-trace ug ato sad madakpan ang kawatan. Puwede sad sila mupalit og chain para ma-hinder ang motive or opportunity sa usa ka kawatan,” he said.
He said that there are three modus operandi that motorcycle thieves employ and one of the most commonly used in Cebu City is stealing a motorcycle that is just parked by the driver.
“Mo-scout ni sila og mga victim nga preferably usa ra nga nag-drive sa motor. Inig biya sa driver diha na nila kuhaon ang motor. Naa na silay technique,” Gingoyon said.
Last Thursday, Fuente Police arrested two notorious carnappers in Cebu City identified as Danilo Tenebroso, 21, and Michael Gaston, 29, residents of Sambag 2, Cebu City.
Their arrest led to the recovery of two motorcycles after HPG- 7, together with Fuente Police, conducted a follow-up operation after Tenebroso revealed where he disposed of the carnapped motorcycles.
One of the recovered motorcycles was carnapped last June 3 while being parked outside a fast food chain in Barangay Cogon Ramos.
The victim, Jayson Suizon, 28, said he only parked his motorcycle for about 30 minutes to eat inside the fast food. When he returned, his motorcycle was already gone.
“Gi-report nako sa police unya amo sad gipa-check ang CCTV sa fast food og didto nakita nga kalma ra nga giguyod sa suspect akong motor,” said Suizon.
Gingoyon said that they are planning to visit surplus shops of motor parts since some of the stolen motorcycles were sold by parts.
“Tan-awon ang source sa ilang mga parts kay basin didto sa ila sad gipamaligya,” said Gingoyon. — MBG (FREEMAN)
