CEBU, Philippines — The policeman and his live-in partner who were recently arrested for possession of illegal dangerous drugs and drug paraphernalia were charged yesterday.

Police Officer 1 Isidro Rosaldo said Police Officer 1 Jayrome Solano, 36, assigned at the Carbon Police Station in Cebu City, and his live-in partner, Maria Ester Montiano, 23, both manifested before Prosecutor III Ernesto Narido, Jr. that they will waive their right for a preliminary investigation and they will just answer the accusations before the court and not in the prosecutor’s level.

Prior to the arrest of Solano and Montiano, the drug enforcement unit of the Mabolo Police Station conducted an operation in Barangay Luz which resulted in the arrest of Vanessa Larrobis, 25; Orlando Ong,37;  and Allaine James Alcaraz, 27, who were allegedly sniffing shabu.

Larrobis allegedly named Solano as her supplier of illegal drugs.

The police conducted a follow-up operation on Tuesday and went to Solano’s place in Barangay Kasambagan where he and Montiano were allegedly caught sniffing drugs.

Police seized one medium and one small sized sachet of suspected shabu and assorted drug paraphernalia from the couple.

Drug Test

Meanwhile, the Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Office (CPADAO) conducted a surprise drug test in Talisay City Police Station early morning yesterday.

CPADAO staff Marlon Ligan said they administered drug test to 70 personnel and there is no one who tested positive.

Talisay has a total of 65 police personnel and five non-uniformed personnel.

Chief of Police Supt Marlu Conag said it was the second time under his leadership that Talisay policemen were subjected to a surprise drug test.

Last January 20, Talisay underwent a drug test initiated by the local government unit of Talisay City and no one tested positive.

CPADAO has been conducting surprise drug tests in police stations this year and Talisay is the 18th station. (FREEMAN)
