CEBU, Philippines - A man who allegedly pointed a gun at his wife was killed by responding policeman yesterday morning in Sitio Telepono, Barangay Manipis, Talisay City.

Mary Ann Labajo, 42, sought the help of the police after her husband, Pedro Labajo Jr., 45, allegedly pointed a gun at her during an argument.

Talisay City chief of police, Superintendent Aileen Recla, said the wife told the police that she confronted her husband for allegedly having another woman, which resulted to an argument and ended with Pedro pointing a gun at her.

When operatives came and announced their presence, Pedro immediately fired at the operatives twice. This prompted the cops to return fire, hitting Pedro in different parts of his body.

He was brought to the Talisay District hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.

Recla clarified that Pedro was not involved in any illegal drug activities but was reportedly known in the area for his tough attitude.

Pedro was a forest guard, but Recla said they are still investigating whether he was authorized to carry a gun.

The cops recovered from the scene one homemade caliber .45 pistol without a serial number with four bullets; one caliber.22 rifle with a magazine loaded with live ammos; two empty shells for a cal .45 and three empty shells for a caliber 5.56.

Meanwhile, a woman was shot by her neighbor after an argument over ownership of a radio in Sitio Salvador, Barangay Tanke, Talisay City Sunday afternoon.

Catalina Nuñez, 43, was rushed to the hospital after she was shot by her neighbor, a certain Dondon, on her right foot.

PO1 Othelo Largo said the shooting ensued when the victim and Ramil Abarquez, the brother of the live-in partner of the suspect, was having an argument regarding who owned a transistor radio.

Abarquez reportedly walked away after the argument, but Dondon came and immediately shot Nuñez.

Largo said they are still conducting further investigation into the incident. (FREEMAN)
