Woman hurt in stabbing during Christmas party

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - What was supposed to be a merry-making turned into a bloody event when two women attending a Christmas party yesterday afternoon ended up fighting that resulted in a stabbing incident inside a fastfood outlet in downtown Cebu City.

Harib Castillon, 36, of Barangay Pari-an, Cebu City, landed in the hospital because of a lacerated wound in her face and a stab wound to the back. The suspect, Maricel Go, was immediately arrested by the barangay tanods of Santo Niño who happened to pass by the area to pick up grocery items for the Christmas party of the barangay employees.

Santo Niño Barangay Captain Pancho Ramirez said they were at the area when they noticed a commotion inside the fastfood outlet. A bloodied woman later went running outside of the fastfood outlet asking for help.

Chief barangay tanod Berto Balaba said the suspect was immediately arrested by them and turned over to the Waterfront Police Station. Both the victim and the suspect were attending the Christmas party organized by a kindergarten school in Pari-an.

However, the two had a heated argument in the middle of the party resulting in the stabbing incident.

According to Balaba, the two employees had previous arguments with the suspect reportedly threatening to surprise the victim.

Ramirez also recalled that it was not the first time that the suspect was involved in a fight. He said there was a previous incident in which Go was complained in the barangay. — (FREEMAN)
