CEBU, Philippines - Sinulog Idol 2014 first runner-up Sheila Mae Bucog died and another woman was injured after they were hit by a multicab past 6 p.m. yesterday in Barangay Duljo Fatima, Cebu City.

Bucog, 18, of Barangay Inayawan died on the spot while Leobena Marine, 25, of barangay Mambaling sustained minor injuries after she was also hit by the multicab.

Alan Villarin, driver of the multicab with plate number 9D 9198, was heading to his house when he lost control of the steering wheel and hit Bucog.

Based on initial investigation conducted by PO2 Wilfredo Caperida, Traffic Patrol Group, Bucog was standing at the side of the road waiting for a jeepney when she was hit by the multicab.

Manuel Tagaan, TPG record in-charge, said that the suspect tried to evade a motorcycle but he lost control of the vehicle and hit the motorcycle and Bucog in the process.

"Ang multicab nawagtangan og brake, misuway og likay sa motor pero ang nag-atang sa kilid ang na-igo," he said.

After hitting Bucog and Marine, the multicab hit an electric post, leaving the driver injured.

Bucog died on the spot while Marine was brought to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for immediate treatment. The latter is already in a safe condition.

Villarin is currently detained at the TPG's lockup cell while waiting for possible charges to be filed against him.

Tagaan said that TPG has prepared to file a charge of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and physical injury against Villarin.

"Giandam na ang kaso, but dunay attempt para ma-settle, naghuwat mi sa pamilya sa biktima," he added. —  (FREEMAN)
