CEBU, Philippines - Affected families in the construction of the two condominium buildings at the old Lorega cemetery in Cebu City for the Mahiga Creek residents will have a separate area in the same vicinity.

This is according to the chief of the city’s Division for the Welfare of the Urban Poor (DWUP), Collin Rosell.

“Kanang maigo sila, they were aware long time ago.” said Rosell.

“Now klaro na ang program sa government re-classifying into a housing site. Ato na lang is to pursue with the plan and the program,” he added.

According to Rosell, there will be a little clearing operation in the said area.

Each condominium is a four-storey building with 87 units which construction is now on-going.

The city government has P87 million budget for the said project.

“Para man gud na sa danger areas. Component na siya sa flood control program sa national government,” Rosell said.

However, he emphasized that only registered residents in the place will be prioritized.

Mahiga Creek is one of the places considered as danger zone wherein there are families who are illegal settlers occupying in the three-meter easement zone. During the rain the area gets flooded

At least 50 illegal settlers have already showed willingness to cooperate with the Cebu City government. /GMR (FREEMAN)
