Davide promises 12-0 win for LP senatorial bets

AJ de la Torre - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A local stalwart of the Liberal Party believes that a 12-0 win for its senatorial candidates is doable despite beliefs of political pundits that this is highly improbable.

LP’s gubernatorial bet Hilario “Junjun” Davide, III even promised to President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino, III to deliver a 12-0 win for the party in Cebu.

Davide made the promise at the Barba Sports Complex in Toledo City during the party’s rally.

“I believe Cebuanos are discerning voters. They know the qualities that would make a good senator,” said Davide, explaining that their senatorial bets were carefully chosen by President Aquino himself whom Davide said are candidates with the same principle of Aquino on the “Daang Matuwid.”

Given the great show of support in their rallies last Friday, Davide said they are more confident with the campaign of their whole party.

“With the support shown by the Cebuanos in the three rallies yesterday, I am more than confident that Cebu will deliver a 12-0 vote in favor of Team PNoy.”

An estimated 15,000 supporters gathered in Bogo City while another 8,000 supporters packed the sports complex in Toledo City. While with the Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK) rally at the provincial capitol grounds, Police Regional Office-7 director Marcelo Garbo and Cebu City Police office acting director Mariano Natuel Jr. estimated the crowd to be at 65,000.

Both Davide and his runningmate acting Governor Agnes Magpale were also present in the BOPK-organized event.

“I am very satisfied with the support shown by our supporters in the LP rallies held in Bogo and Toledo yesterday,” said Davide, “Thank you for showing us that Cebuanos still believe in a graft free society. It only means that sa dalang matunhay, kauswagan kanunay,” stated Davide, adding that his bid for the gubernatorial seat is still very much alive.

Davide ran in the last elections but lost to suspended Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.

In his speech yesterday, Davide hit Garcia’s administration for alleged anomalous transactions.

Davide is now running against the younger brother of Garcia, incumbent 3rd district Rep. Pablo John “PJ”Garcia.  (FREEMAN)
