BOPK to celebrate in Boracay

CEBU, Philippines - The Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK) is planning a luxury vacation in the famous Boracay Island.

Vice Mayor Joy Augustus Young said the group would like to take a break from the nightly “pulong-pulongs” and daily handshaking activities.

He said they might take the break after the filing of the candidacy or after the first week of next month.

“We’ve been working hard. Ganahan gani sila na two weeks from now, but I don’t think we can make it because we are still very busy,” he said.

The vice mayor said they have more reason to celebrate and treat themselves after former congressman Antonio “Tony” Cuenco’s announcement of withdrawing from his plans to run for Congress next year.

He said that Cuenco’s withdrawal is more to their advantage and a setback for Team Rama.

“We really should celebrate,” he said.

When the news of Cuenco’s withdrawal from the house bid broke out last Friday, Young called Councilor Margarita Osmeña, wife of Rep. Tomas Osmeña, and with a smile told her the news.

Young said the recent decision of Cuenco created a gaping hole in Team Rama. He said barangay captains who left BOPK for Cuenco are more likely to leave Team Rama now that Cuenco is no longer running.

Young said, though, that even if barangay captains want to come back, BOPK will only accept back a selected few.

Young said that the trip will be shouldered by each member since they will be bringing their families.

If they will encounter difficulty in booking a big group to Boracay this October, Young said they might just take their vacation somewhere near like Camotes Island.

Young said it will only be a three-day vacation and most likely will be held over a weekend so it will not affect their duties in City Hall. — (FREEMAN)
