Durano quits as 5th Dist. LP chair

CEBU, Philippines - While the Liberal Party got new allies in the province’s Fifth District, it lost its district chairman, former Danao City Mayor Jesus “Don” Durano.

Durano has tendered an “irrevocable resignation” Tuesday as chairman of LP in the Fifth District.

Durano will be joined by his brother, Danao City Mayor Ramon “Boy” Durano Jr., in a press conference tomorrow, Friday, to disclose their political plans and alliances. Boy used to be allied with his brother, Vice Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano III, under Barug Alang sa Kauswagan ug Demokrasya (Bakud) Party, but the two are now estranged.

Boy joined Don, a longtime political foe of Nito. Boy earlier announced he will support whoever Nito will not support in the 2013 elections.

After the two elections in 2007 and 2010, Bakud severed ties with One Cebu Party when Nito announced his support for LP’s gubernatorial bet, former Cebu City councilor Hilario Davide III, and his running mate, Vice Governor Agnes Magpale.

LP head, President Benigno Aquino III, is set to witness the formal endorsement of the Davide-Magpale tandem and their slate in Danao City on Saturday.

One Cebu’s gubernatorial bet, Third District Rep. Pablo John Garcia, also offered the vice gubernatorial slot to Magpale, but the latter chose LP.

Garcia said yesterday that he is yet to sit down with Boy after the latter made a statement of support to One Cebu.

“I could say that that is a tremendous boost for One Cebu...We will pursue that direction that Mayor Boy Durano has offered,” Garcia said. —(FREEMAN)
